About

Hobbyists First, Collectors Always

Hobbylobbiest was born from a lifelong love of collecting and the simple joy of the hunt. We're hobbyists first, collectors always, and believers that this hobby is more than just cards. It's about nostalgia, discovery, the stories behind the cardboard, and the excitement of finding your next favorite piece.

From childhood classics and vintage gems to today's rookies, stars, and rare finds, we're here to share the passion that brings collectors together.

From one hobbyist to another, happy hunting!

Meet Patrick, the Hobbyist Behind Hobbylobbiest

Sometimes, all it takes is two baseball cards to bring you right back.

For me, I was headed to a Cubs – Dodgers game for my birthday, and a buddy handed me two PCA rookie cards. I hadn't held a card in almost 40 years. He was showing me some “new” Rickey Henderson cards he got from '91 or '92. I remembered them. They were still in my parents' house. There we were, reminiscing about the good ole days of collecting.

Sitting on the floor with your buddies, binders open, Beckett Guides in hand, making deals and debating who got the better end of a trade. Those were the days.

I still remember mowing lawns all summer to pay for the Donruss Jose Canseco Rated Rookie card. It felt like a fortune back then. My local card shop let me put it on “lay-away.” Then came the emotional jolt of trading it away for a '58 Willie Mays and a '58 Brooks Robinson (which I still have—and recently sent off to grading).

That birthday conversation brought it all back. And just like that, I was back in the hobby.

Having a Blast Being Back

I'll admit, it's changed a bit since my early collecting days. Relics, refractors, numbered parallels, slabs, and enough new terminology to make your head spin. There's been a learning curve, but that's become the fun part. I'm back to researching players, hunting for cards, making deals, and discovering just how much this hobby has evolved.

That's what Hobbylobbiest is all about for me. It's the nostalgia of where we started, the excitement of what we're discovering today, and the simple joy of collecting something you love.

I'm not here because I have it all figured out. I'm here because I'm a collector who rediscovered the hobby and is having a blast all over again.

If you're a longtime collector, welcome back. If you're just getting started or passing the hobby on, welcome aboard. There's always another card to chase and another story to tell.

I'm Patrick. I'm a hobbyist, just like you. And I'm having a blast being back.

From one hobbyist to another, happy hunting!
